OK Campers,
After we went out of the harbour on friday we saw waves at the end of the bay of what we knew was a mistral so we rushed back in again just before the 45 knots wind hit us.
Saturday gave us better conditions although with very little wind.
Here in Cannes racing then becomes difficult. Two races were finished after being shortened by the race comitee.
Apollo finished 7 and 4th and that put us in 4th position with 11 points with Gianni Murzi on the italian Doomernik on 3rd place.
Today there was no wind but the race officer needed a third race to complete the series and thus we went out and started in what would become a lotery. We managed to finish in front of most of the guys we had to beat, but not enough boats between us.
So, first encounter and Apollo kept her fourth place with only one point from number 3 and 2 point from number 2.
Next mission will be Monaco in two weeks.
Signing of,
Joop

Dear All,
Sunny but windy conditions here in Cannes. Last saturday HKG 55 Zephyr touched water for the first time. See enclosed film. I am here as crew for NED 373. More on the Regatte Royalle will follow. Joop

Dear All,
Today our works boat has left the mould.
The ‘works’ name is Apollo 1.
It will be available in about two months for charter anywhere in Europe and based in the south of France.
Please contact us if you want to try a Doomernik rocket ship!
Next week we will finish HKG 55 Zephyr and I will take her to Cannes. Owner Tam Nguyen will participate in the Regatte Royal together with his wife and Stavros. You are welcome on board to have a look.
Hope to see you there! Joop
June 29th 2011
Dear All,
I went to the Dutch open in Medemblik and from what I heard it was a great and well managed event. Wouter Ten Wolde had Stavros on board and managed to win the day price on Friday with two second places!
Poul Richard Hoi Jensen, back on the block after a period of absence, won the event and it was nice to see him again on the shore.
I also did some service stuff on a few boats. For instance, if you break a main halliard, these things tend to happen, you should put the new halliard through the top lock. This helps the new halliard actually locking the way you want it to. Luckily there was a nice crane and I could solve the problem quickly.
They could have left me hanging there but were kind enough to lower me again so I could finish my beer.
What else is new…
The biggest news is that we now have a demo boat under construction that will be available for charter anywhere in Europe from October. The idea is to have her start in St. Tropez and for that regatta she is still available. So, always been intrigued by the Doomernik Dragon and want to give it a try? Now’s you have the chance! Please contact us for details.
Busy times in the yard while we have to get Fei Lin’s Flirtation GBR 633 back into shape before she leaves to the Europeans next Friday. She was hit…. Again! This time the gap in the hull was a real challenge!
Hope you are enjoying a great season!

Dear All,
Mediteranian conditions on lake Geneva last weekend and five races under the
expected and difficult light air conditions.
I joined Boris Bayer on NED 373 and we sqeezed out a third place overall.
Without discard we would have taken the silver!

Races for the Swiss Open start on thursday.
May 2011
Dear All,
In my last newsflash I told you that we were about to deliver a boat that was “different”.
Now it is time to show you how different.
NED 407 “Firefly”
The hull is painted in a special paint making it look like polished aluminium. The plywood deck was made a bit heavier to comply with the required panel weight and then yellow ceder was used instead of the traditional teak strips. In between the ceder strips is a light grey caulk and all mahogany parts are stained almost black.
The rigging is in dark grey. No coloured trim lines were allowed, only white grey and black.
All together a stunning boat and a thrill to build for the Doomernik team!

March 2011
Dear All,
The frequency of my newsflashes says something about how busy I am.
We have seen a spinoff of activities since we moved to the new, and bigger, facilities.
I can now tell you that 18 Dragons fit in our 800 square meters hall!
Over the course of this winter season a total of 23 boats from all over Europe paid us a visit for a large variety of works. Fei Lin’s Flirtation GBR633 was damaged again! This time by a French sailor in the last run of the season! We repaired the hole in the cold moulded hull and did a lot of varnishing and layout changes.
For your information… the right picture is not before the damage took place but after the repair….
Layouts keep changing and we spend a lot of time keeping our boats ‘up to date’. And with all those wooden deck versions built so far, we also spend time varnishing.
Now that the number of boats visiting the yard is increasing all the time I felt it was time to find help organising all this. It is simply impossible for one man to build boats, be a walking encyclopaedia with all the measurements and know how, and plan and organise the whole thing at the same time.
So, I am happy to introduce Ries Lievens. He has a history of sailing that goes back a long time from racing dinghy’s to his cruising Int. 8 mr. that he owns now and is also in the yard for some work.
Ries does all the planning and organises the works on all boats in the yard. So, as soon as your boat is in the yard and you wish to discuss works you can call him or mail ries@doomernik.nl
The good thing is that I have much more time to do what I am good at.
At this time we have a dark blue Heritage ready for delivery for a Dutch owner. We were allowed to take her to the Bern boat show in Swiss which was a great success! Another new Heritage is nearing completion but this boat is somewhat different…….. stay tuned, details will follow….
A number of boats are nearing completion of maintenance works and will leave the yard in the coming weeks. An even larger number has left already.
We also had some boats out there racing.
NED 372 a 2007 Heritage went to Melbourne for the worlds and Wouter and his daughter had a fantastic time on the water with Stavros on board. They even made a fourth in one of the races that should have been a bullet if I understand Stavros correctly. What a shame! However, another Doomernik,2006 polyester deck version AUS 214, won that race. So with more than 70 boats there, and only 2 Doomernik’s, first and fourth is not so bad!
Another point worth mentioning was a special price for Wouter for sailing the most beautiful boat in the event!
Willy Packer and crew on AUS 214 Wouter Ten Wolde with crew on NED 372
See enclosed clip made by Wouter ten Wolde! http://www.youtube.com
Near future
Now that all boats are leaving to go sailing you may wonder how we fill our days. Do not worry! We are starting on another Heritage that will have a slightly different layout.
Martin Payne and I will sit down in a new boat and discuss. I am really looking forward to that!
The boat will be delivered for trials in Cannes and St’Tropez later this year and then packed and shipped to Hong Kong.
Keep an eye on HKG 55 later this season!
Another project will be the restoration of a wooden Borresen.
Do not forget to have a look at our ‘for sale’ section. Very interesting boats at various price levels at the time.
Enjoy the season!
Regards,
Joop Doomernik
July 2010
It has been an extremely busy spring season for us this year.
As a result the last newsflash was far to old by now and I apologize for not keeping you posted.
First of all I am happy to be able to tell you that I have moved the yard to a new address in Zaltbommel.
This old and nice town is located more central in The Netherlands and the good thing is that the facilities we now have are much bigger.
So, more room for more dragons...
This spring we had a lot of maintenance works on several boats. With more and more “Doomernik’s” out there, the number of boats in the winter storage increases as well.
We also delivered two new boats. One racer version and a day sailing version. Both were equipped with the new “Barney Post”.
Joop
The day sailor version has the same new post but with less trimfunctions.
You can choose your own lay out off course and the ‘old’ post will remain available.

Now we are working on two new boats and given the interest I am pretty sure that we have busy times ahead.
If you are considering a new Doomernik and want to start sailing in spring 2011 it might be time to order.
The Dragon Class keeps developing and we are now starting the development of a raised cockpit floor that will be an option.
More about that as it develops.
For those of you travelling through Europe with your Dragon it might be interesting to know that you can store your boat in between regatta’s and go home to pick her up again on your way to the next race. Especially for sailors from the UK this saves you a ferry trip with your boat.
The Doomernik service Van will be present at the Gold Cup in Marstrand, the Belgian Open in Ostend and the Dutch open championships.
If you need anything please let us know so we can bring it with us.
For those of you who enjoyed the World Championships in Medemblik last year it might be an idea to attend the Dutch Open. It is the same water and the same hospitality.
I hope to see you there or on the shores at other races.
Good Racing!
Joop Doomernik
December 2009

June 22nd 2009
Last weekend we had the Tune Up races for the Dutch open nationals.
Winds from 4 bfrt and up with gushes. I was sailing on NED 1, a 2002 heritage racer. We made 1 bullit with Doomernik's finishing 1, 2, 3, 4 in that race!
Overall we finished 3rd in the 22 boat fleet and Mark Neeleman with his 2007 Thoroughbred Racer took first.
Dutch open starts Thursday.
After the dutch open I will take NED 381 to Kiel for that magnificent Childhood Grand Prix.
The service van will be there.
Joop

June 2009
First of all congratulations to Eystein Kleven with his new Heritage Racer. I had to get used to the color at first when the hull was completely empty but after all the varnished mahogany was added and the teak a.s.o. I must admit it makes the boat look really classic.
Eystein also allowed me to do my buoyancy test.
When we pulled the boat over the keel came out of the water!
The extra buoyancy volume in our side boxes do the trick. There was water coming into the for and aft compartments and that made the boat to go deeper as the minute, we had to hold her down, past.
After the test we improved the hatches.
So, after all that hard work it was time to go sailing again.
Pressure's on here in The Netherlands as only 16 boats can qualify for the worlds in Medemblik this year.
NED 1, The boat I crew on did ok and it looks like I will be sailing instead of looking from a spectator boat. However, It's not over yet with tune up and Dutch Open ahead.
I also took NED 381 (featured on the for sale page) for spin on the Starnberger See south of Münich, together with Sebastian Hopf and my German dealer Alexander Bruhn, and enjoyed German hospitality. It helps if you like beer and hate small glasses!
Always nice to catch up with my friends and colleagues Markus and Max Glass.
I was looking forward to light air sailing but the first day we had 4 beaufort with strong gushes of wind from various directions. At one point we were hiking all three as the boat took wind from the leeward side and just tacked! This needs getting used to.
The second and last day I took the helm for change… still shifty in the first race, where we finished 13 in the 32 boat fleet, but with a good start in the last race we made a bullit with a great margin!
All together a fantastic weekend under Mediterranean circumstances. Thank's again to the Possenhofen Yachtclub for their great hospitality!
Next stop…. Tune up Races in Medemblik

May 7th 2009
I would like to welcome the new dealers. Doomernik Dragons is now represented in Russia by Sergey Kuzovov, in Austria by Jonas Andreas and in Swiss by Dominik Schenk.
You can see all their address details on the contact page.
Now for the sailing.
Ulli Libor went to Hamburg to sail two weekends on the Alster and won the event. In Holland we had a great spring series with high stakes. Everyone was there to attempt to qualify for this years World championship in The Netherlands. Mark Neeleman, our new Dutch Champion, won the series in his 2007 Doomerik. Mark took his boat and crew to Douarnenez to sail the Coupe De Bretagne. He finished second overall in a fleet of 64 boats behind Tommy Muller together with Vincy and Max. It was his first series in a large fleet after starting in the Dragon last September. Mark is the only sailor with a Doomernik at the event. Fingers crossed for the Grand Prix!
I always have had a lot of interest from people who want a Dragon for cruising and are looking for 'older' used Doomernik Dragons. Problem was that I have only been building new boats since '99, when we slowly started production, and owners tended to stick to their Doomernik's longer. Now those boats are slowly entering the marked bringing a Doomernik within reach for those who want the great looks but not necessarily a new boat. So keep an eye to our used boat section!
The good news is that all these boats are here at the yard. Now that my neighbor is moving out, I get more space and I will have a showroom with enough space to present the used boats. You are welcome to drop by for a cup of coffee and see a line up of beauties!
See you on the water!
Joop

Dear All,
SUI 297 Tachiston was the only Doomernik competing in St.Tropez with Ulli Libor on the helm and Stefan Hellriegel and Frank Butzmann.
49 boats were racing and all the 'good guys' were there.
Tachiston won again……

Dear All,
Another success! In Greece Antonis Nicolaras won the championship of Greece with his 2007 Heritage Racer ' Esterel'
We should all go to Athens and enjoy the fantastic conditions and facilities in Piraeus.

Dear All,
I am very proud to announce the birth of a new Dragon Sailor!
My son was born on September 30. and weighs 3750 grams.
His name is Thom Doomernik.
Vanessa and Thom are both doing very well.

September 29th 2008
This year only one Doomernik competed in the Regatta Royal.
Ulli Libor took his Thoroughbred Racer to Cannes and competed in a competitive fleet of 79 boats.
He won the event…..
Congratulations to Ulli, Henning and Stefan!

September 15th 2008
What a weekend! Here in Enkhuizen on the ijsselmeer the dutch open championship was sailed with 30 boats competing. 4 days of competitive sailing.
Mark Neeleman, Gerard van der Krocht and Lodewijk Schut won the event in their 2007 Doomernik with two bullets to prove their point!
Jesper Bendix and Crew became second and Reinier Wissenraet ended third.
Neeleman sailed his first race in the Dragon last weekend. Not bad!
In Hamburg a new Heritage was presented to the German sailors on the Alster See. Tommy Muhler volunteered to sail the boat and finished second and first on Saturday in a steady 4 to 5 Bfrt breeze and lost his winning strike in the difficult conditions on Sunday.
Thank you Tommy for proving my point in Hamburg!

September 4th 2008
Yesterday the first Doomernik made her way to Hamburg. It is NED 381 ' Droomer' (dreamer…). Her owner, Ron Verwey, was kind enough to allow me to take her with me and keep her in Hamburg for the coming weeks.
It was the first time I craned a boat in the water for the first time without the owner being present.
I took care of the official part myself. Dutch flag on the stern and spoke "I name you Dreamer and wish you and your crew…
If you would like to take a closer look you can contact my Hamburg dealer Alexander Bruhn.

September 3rd 2008
Today Klaas Ruigewaard took delivery of his new Heritage Racer ' Ruighevaert' NED 390.
I guess it was about three years ago when he first contacted me to inquire about the price of his dreamboat.
It took some time but he finally ordered and today he couldn't stop smiling.
He will race the boat but also use it for day sailing. This is also very possible with the racing versions.
We applied a coating of self polishing antifouling without sanding the hull. If, in the future, he decides to change to racing only we can clean it with a 'dry sailing' bottom as end result.
Make me proud Klaas and beat the other 5 dragons in your harbour!

August 28th 2008
Today Jos van Veen took delivery of his new Heritage Racer ' Joasia' NED 398
He intents to do some racing in the future and keeps the boat behind his house on a lakeside.
The hull has a 'dry sailing' finish.
After a day of sailing he 'parks' his boat on a boot lift and lifts it out of the water!

August 7th 2008
It appears to be difficult in Oslo. Looking at the results you can see stars rise and fall deep at the same day!
Some success though for the two Doomernik's competing.
Ulli Libor in SUI 297 'Tachiston' is in 8th position with a 3rd place in race 5 as best result and Terje Wang and his crew Odd Godager and Jan Monrad-Hansen in NOR 279 'Liz' made a bullit in race 3! Well done Terje!
More races to come so let's see what's in store for these two boats.
July 17th 2008
Dear All,
I am very happy to announce that I have joined forces with ' The Friendship Racing Division' in Hamburg.
They will act as dealer for northern Germany and are a solid partner for the purchase of new Dragons, after sales service and maintenance of your Doomernik Dragon. Please visit their website www.racingdivision.de

July 10th 2008
Yesterday I returned from the Hanseatic Lloyd Dragon Grand Prix in Kiel.
71 boats with some really competitive teams joined in the bay of Kiel for a series of races in perfect conditions. The wind varied between light air and even quite a lot of wind during a few showers we enjoyed to wash away the salt. So it was very interested to see how SUI 297 Tachiston would do. Being vice worldchampion this boat enjoys a lot of attention especially now that it was not helmed by Ulli Libor himself but his crew Frank Butzman who sailed together with Stefan Hellriegel and Sigrid Smuda Fröschl. Ulli was too busy helping his wife Manuela with the organization of the event.
SUI 297 started the series with a bullit! Not bad Frank!!
After 5 perfect races Tachiston ended second overall shortly after Frank Berg with his 'chip tuned' Peterson and Tuesen from the early sixties. Third was Poul Richard with teis palm and Lars Jensen. So, A Doomernik is fast in all conditions and again made the silver in a large fleet.
I strongly advice all of you to fill in your entry form for this event as soon as it's available in spring next year. The HLL team organized an event that sets a new standard and will be hard to match.
Many thanks to Harro, Manuela, ulli and the rest of the more than 40 people in the HLL grand Prix team!
Next stop: Oslo Europeans….

June 10th 2008
NED 372 ' Wolly'
Last Saturday Wouter ten Wolde took delivery of his new Dragon ' Wolly'.
He will base the boat in Muiden Holland and race with his two daughters Charlotte and Juliette.
May 15th, 2008
Dear All,
at this moment we are building 4 new Heritage racers for clients in The Netherlands and the UK. Also a Thoroughbred Racer is being built in stock for me to use in the new buoyancy test. After that this boat will be available 3rd, 2008a demo and, off course, also available for sale to anyone who wants to avoid a longer lead time for a new boat.
I also ordered a new Mercedes van that will be fitted out as a service vehicle to attend at regattas. In my previous newsflash I told you we intended to improve service and this is one big step in our efforts to do so.
Ulli Libor and his Hanseatic Lloyd team will compete in Palma from March 17 until 21 and I will be present from the 19th. Hope to see you there.

March 25th 2008
Dear All,
All of you who have ever visited the yard will remember my good friend and ever companion Willem.
Willem died last night March 24, two days after his ninth birthday, from a heart failure.
He was an experienced Dragon sailor but preferred to be in the water instead of being on the water.
He was a lot of fun……
March 3rd, 2008
Great Success in Cannes
Yesterday another great success for the Doomernik Dragons team.
At the international Dragon week in Cannes the famous Doomernik ' Extra Bla' did it again finishing second in a competitive fleet of 46 boats!
Peter Kolni on the helm and owner Claes Göran Nilsson together with Christer Johansson started the series with a bullet and stayed in the front of the fleet throughout the event.
Their 2002 heritage racer is still going strong!
Congratulations!
